Celebrate World Gin Day by treating yourself to a cheeky weekend tipple as well as our new G&T print, the latest addition to our growing collection of cocktail prints.

If you’re feeling bereft of inspiration after a long week but still fancy trying something new, here are a few of the LLT staff favourites…

Classic G&T
Centuries old and for good reason, this classic cocktail is enjoyed the world over. We love the classic cocktail in it’s simplest form, because, to be honest, if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

  • 50ml Gin
  • 150ml tonic water

Pour gin and tonic into a large glass filled with ice, stir to combine.

Serve: in a Collins Glass
Garnish: lime wedge or a slice of grapefruit (Martha's personal favourite)

Elderflower Gin Fizz
An absolutely perfect drink for a warm summer’s evening and something effortlessly fancy to serve at an alfresco lunch-into-dinner situation.

  • 50ml gin
  • 30 ml Elderflower liqueur
  • 25ml lemon juice
  • Prosecco to top

Put gin, elderflower liqueur and lemon juice into a shaker with ice, shake until chilled. Pour into a champagne flute and top with prosecco.

Serve: in a champagne flute
Garnish: lemon peel

Gimlet
Rumoured to have been created by English sailors as a cure for scurvy, the gimlet is now championed by easy-going people everywhere. It’s a no-fuss cocktail with delightfully tart results.

  • 60ml gin
  • 40ml Fresh Lime juice
  • 20ml simple syrup

Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice and shake until cold.

Serve: in a chilled coupe or tumbler over ice
Garnish: lime wheel

Dirty Martini
Certainly not for the faint of heart but absolutely delicious with pre-dinner nibbles and a sure fire way to start the weekend in style.

  • 150ml dry gin
  • 25ml dry vermouth
  • 25ml olive brine

Add all parts to a mixing vessel filled with ice, stir until well-chilled and the outside of the mixer feels ice cold.

Serve: in a chilled martini glass
Garnish: a skewer of olives

Gin Sling
Essentially a Tom Collins but with added the added excitement of bitters. Elevate your Saturday afternoon with this simple and sophisticated take on the Singapore Sling.

  • 50ml Gin
  • 20ml lemon juice
  • 15ml sugar syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Tonic or Soda water to taste

Put the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and bitters into a cocktail shaker along with a handful of ice. Shake until combined and pour into a tall glass filled with ice, top with tonic or soda water to taste.

Serve: in a Collins glass
Garnish: rosemary sprig and a lemon wedge

Negroni
Fashionable and to the point, this cocktail is Milan in a glass. Potentially a fire-starter, however, when made well it is the perfect balance of sweet and bitter.

  • 30ml gin
  • 30ml Campari
  • 30ml sweet vermouth

Pour all ingredients straight into a glass filled with ice. Stir until chilled and serve straight away.

Serve: in an old-fashioned glass
Garnish: orange wedge
